Did you know that by choosing deep-frozen fruit you could be opting for much more nutritious fruit than if you bought it fresh?
In a recently published study, an Australian researcher dispelled the myth that frozen fruit is less healthy than fresh.
Nowadays, maintaining a balanced diet isn’t always easy and including fruit on a daily basis hasn’t proved to be easy either. This is due to various factors, such as the pace of life and/or the increase in prices, which means that it is not a priority option.
Frozen fruit is a good alternative in certain cases, as it is often richer in certain nutrients. They are a more economical option because they avoid wastage.
Evangeline Mantzioris, director of the Nutrition and Food Science Programme at the University of South Australia, explains that when fruit is frozen soon after it is harvested, it is richer in certain ingredients, such as vitamins C and E. She also adds that if it is frozen, it is richer in certain nutrients. She also adds that if they are frozen properly, they have nutritional properties equivalent to fresh fruit.
In addition to these advantages, the author adds that consuming frozen fruit potentially reduces waste, as you only consume what you need. It also allows them to be kept for longer, unlike fresh fruit.
In short, frozen fruit can be a healthy and practical option that can be included in your daily diet, providing essential nutrients in a more convenient and accessible way. However, it’s important to balance consumption with fresh produce whenever possible, in order to enjoy a variety of flavours and textures.
